Jewel Box Series El Paso Theatre reviews
Winwood/Clapton jam session
"My anticipation of experiencing a magical time in rock & roll was never really fulfilled. I never thought I would have the chance to witness one of rock & roll's greatest, the Jewel Box Series. I expected this concert to be so much more than it was, as I have been to many concerts in my time. The show was more about Steve Winwood's music than Eric Clapton's. It was clear to me that Winwood was the one leading the show, with Eric as his backup. Eric, of course, delivered a stellar performance. Steve also did well, but as he played the keyboard and a bit of guitar, I felt like the focus was on his music. I left with the impression that Eric Clapton may not realize his full potential, being seen as just the backup guitarist. I was disappointed that I didn't hear many Clapton songs that night, as there are so many classics I missed out on. They came on at least 1/2 hour late, performed for about 1 1/2 hours, and returned for a brief encore; not worth the $144 I spent on my ticket. But that's just my personal viewpoint."
